Walkable City Maps: A Collaboration of Partners Complete!

In the fall of 2007, a group of community partners gathered around the table to discuss the idea of creating walking maps that hi-lighted points of interest around downtown Rochester.  After many months of collaboration, the project is complete!  The five walking routes will be available at the Peace Plaza, Rochester Public Library, History Center, Rochester Convention and Visitors Bureau and on-line at www.walkrochester.com

 

Special thanks to the partners: Alan Calavano (History Center of Olmsted County), Jeff Ellerbush (Rochester/Olmsted Planning Department), Mary Gastner (Rochester Convention and Visitors Bureau), Rene Lafflam (RNeighbors), Heidi Mestad (Rochester Downtown Alliance), and Jeff Morton (Rochester Park and Recreation).

 

Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee

The Rochester-Olmsted Council of Governments (ROCOG) is seeking applications for board membership to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee. BPAC is responsible for advising the ROCOG Policy Board on community needs and issues with respect to walking and biking and providing input on plans, policies and procedures in relation to travel in the area.

The Rochester Downtown Farmers Market has a fantastic selection of locally grown foods from our Southeastern Minnesota farmers and growers. We are open Saturdays, 7:30 AM until Noon, May to October, and sell a huge variety of vegetables, fruits, meats, breads, plants, baked goods, honey and preserves, and fresh cut flowers. Special events and performances by local musicians highlight our summer months, including guest chefs, demos, and Kids Day at the Market. Buy local, support your community!!! Our indoor Winter Market is held November - April at Building 41, Olmsted County Fairgrounds, just a short distance south of downtown Rochester.
